April 4 - In Bratislava
I got an sms from dad at 2:30 in the morning, and after that I had some troubles falling asleep again. Thanks!
I woke up at 6:30, and turned on TV. Childs' programmes in Slovak will make anyone feel great, especially during commercials. All the commercials geared towards kids down there has porn music in it.
During breakfast I reflected over various Slavic languages and lost palatisations in Swedish. I reached the conclusion that the Germanic L and D sounds must have been palatized once upon a time. Incredibly exciting. I also managed to order my breakfast in something that with good will can be compared to Slovak, and I was really proud! Yeah, I'm a sucker for linguistics...
The remainder of the day was spent with Hana in and around Bratislava. I began in big style by doing a historical tour along the major streets of Bratislava, thanks to the worst direction of the century by a lady in a kiosk. In due time I finally go to the square where I was to meet Hana. My brother and my sister-in-law had tod me to check out the castle and the bridge over the Danube. I was not impressed. We went on to the old caslte of Devin. Its sits on a cliff high, high up above the rives of Danube and Morava. It is also really close to Austria, as Danube marks the border. I've never been so close to Austria in all of my life, mind you.
When I got back to the hotel I asked the young woman in the reception to help me check out the timetables for the buses and trains heading for Prague from Bratislava. I guarantee you that this girl haven't seen a long skirt in all of her life. While I tried to make myself understood in English and some kind of West slavonic mishmash, she showed off her goods to the world. In the end, her colleague had to check the time-tables for me.
Later that evening I met two friends, and we went out for a (short, everything closed at midnight) night on the town. I found a hot spot, and showed off my phone's cool features. Everyone (or, me, atleast) was deeply impressed by this technological marvel.
